DETROIT – The Major League Baseball leading Detroit Tigers are moving to primetime as one of their upcoming matchups has been flexed.

With a 59-38 record, fans across the baseball world will get a glimpse of “Gritty Tigers,” who will visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 7:10 p.m. on ESPN.

The Tigers entered the All-Star break in a slump as they lost four games in a row, including a drubbing to the Seattle Mariners.

They’re also coming off a not-so-great performance in the Midsummer Classic, in which they sent six players and bat boy Frankie Boyd to the festivities as they combined.

The Tigers opened the game with four of the nine spots on the diamond being represented by the Old English D.

American League starting pitcher Tarik Skubal gave up three hits, two runs, two earned runs, no walks, and two strikeouts in 19 pitches in the first inning.

But Skubal made baseball history as he recorded the first ever ABS challenge in his lone outing.

Starting second basemen Gleyber Torres went 0-2 with a strikeout; starting left fielder Riley Greene went 0-3 with two strikeouts, and starting center fielder Javier Báez went 0-2 under the lights.

Zach McKinstry went 0-1 and Casey Mize gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to Corbin Carrol of the Arizona Diamondbacks before retiring the other two batters he faced in his lone inning.

The 2025 Tigers became the first team in Major League history to have six or more players play in the Midsummer Classic but have no one get a hit or toss a scoreless inning.

The Detroit Tigers will send six players and a bat boy to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, tying their highest total ever and breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the most All-Stars this year. (Detroit Tigers on X)

But that’s in the past now as they’re gearing up for the second half of the season with their scheduled third appearance of the 2025 regular season on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Get your popcorn ready, as Skubal is expected to take the mound vs. All-Star pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and the Rangers.

Karl Ravech, the voice of Sunday Night Baseball, will call the action with analyst Eduardo Pérez, analyst and five-time World Series Champion David Cone, and reporter Buster Olney.
