SAD NEWS: Pete Crow‑Armstrong’s surprise absence – Cubs’ ambitions in jeopardy?Y1

July 22, 2025 by mrs a

On the morning of July 22, manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Pete woke up with a swollen knee after a base slide the day before. The result? The 23-year-old was forced to sit out the game against the Kansas City Royals.

“He felt sore when he woke up. That was the result of the base slide last night,” Counsell said. “We hope it’s just a temporary injury.”

But is it? Pete Crow-Armstrong has played nearly the entire season, and his absence during the Cubs’ playoff run is not to be taken lightly.

Without Pete, the Cubs lose:
The No. 1 defensive center fielder — a frequent flier.

A formidable bat — with a .270 AVG, 26 HR, 72 RBI and 28 stolen bases.

The center fielder — one of the NL’s most exciting young players, an icon of the fiery style of play.

Counsel has had to move Seiya Suzuki to center field — a temporary fix rather than a long-term one.

While Counsell says Crow-Armstrong could return on Tuesday, knee injuries are never straightforward. If there’s tendon damage or arthritis, Pete could be out for weeks — meaning the Cubs will have to adjust their game plan and mentality.

How Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong is progressing at the plate

Pete Crow-Armstrong – Why Are People So Concerned?
Pete isn’t just a prospect. He’s:
The NL’s leader in WAR (wins above replacement)
The only player in MLB this year to hit 25 HR and 25 SB
The Cubs’ most effective offensive starter and defensive center fielder.

Without him, the Cubs aren’t just weaker – they’re in danger of falling out of the playoff race if they don’t adjust.

The Chicago Cubs are in a crucial phase – and any missing piece could cause the puzzle to collapse. With Pete Crow-Armstrong under medical observation, the big question is: Are the Cubs’ playoff dreams hanging in the balance at the young hero’s knees?

Let’s pray it’s just a temporary setback – not the start of a season of tragedy.
