The brave tale of Kuno, a heroic dog who wagged his tails alongside soldiers, is a story of true sacrifice and unwavering loyalty. Despite his young age, Kuno had already completed several successful missions, but his final mission would prove to be the most critical one yet. During an al-Qaeda attack on British soldiers, Kuno found himself facing a dire situation. With the soldiers held hostage by armed attackers, Kuno made a courageous decision to intervene and help his fellow comrades.
In the face of danger, Kuno fearlessly intercepted the attackers’ plan, despite being under heavy gunfire. His bravery and sacrifice saved the lives of his fellow soldiers, but unfortunately, Kuno himself sustained severe injuries in the process. He was rushed to a US Army Veterinary Treatment Facility, where he received medical attention for gunshot wounds in his back legs.
Despite losing a paw, Kuno’s determination was unwavering. He became the first UK Military Working Dog to receive a prosthetic limb in 2016. After years of dedicated service, Kuno earned his well-deserved retirement and was adopted by a loving family. Now, he can finally relax and enjoy quality time with his loved ones, basking in the appreciation of a grateful nation.
Kuno’s bravery and selflessness did not go unnoticed, as he was honored with the prestigious Dickin Medal, becoming the 72nd animal to receive this esteemed award from the PDSA. This medal serves as a powerful recognition of the invaluable contributions of military dogs both at home and abroad, always standing by our side to protect and serve.
Throughout his remarkable journey, Kuno’s dedication, selflessness, and courage have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. His story serves as a poignant reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals, and the extraordinary lengths they will go to ensure our safety and well-being.
