Modest! Management penned a heartbreaking tribute after the death of Liam Payne. However, One Direction fans aren’t happy with their choice to speak out
One Direction’s former management team, Modest! Management, penned a tribute following the news of Liam Payne’s death.
The company is a London-based artist management company founded by Richard Griffiths and Harry Magee. They famously were responsible for providing support to One Direction which was comprised of Liam, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik. However, fans were often left with a bad impression of Modest! which led to a harsh response following their tribute.
Modest! Management wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “We are absolutely devastated by the tragic news of Liam Paynes passing. Liam was a huge part of the historic success of One Direction and brought so much pleasure to millions of fans around the globe. Our thoughts go out to all his family, his son Bear and all friends.”
“Sending deep love and condolences from the Modest! family…..forever in our hearts Payno,” they added, signing their post off with his birth and death dates, “29 Aug 1993 – 16 Oct 2024.”
Fans immediately were peeved by the post. After all, in 2015, Directioners rallied together in an effort to crowdfund a purchase of the band from the artist management company. A 16-year-old Katie from New York wrote on GoFundMe at the time: Were gonna raise all the money we can. If we get the 87.7 mil were gonna contact modest through their business email/ in person and use the buyout clause which is on every modest! Contract. Hopefully it works out and were able to give them what they want.
They were convinced that the company was mistreating the band, especially after Zayn’s departure from the group. This animosity carried on following Liam’s death. Their post was met with anger as fans reacted. One wrote: “oh my god the NERVE to write this when you guys were literally the reason it all started. i hope i can live long enough to witness your downfall.”
Another wrote: “You let those boys down so many times and trust and believe this ending has deep roots with the way yall in the management couldnt protect them and instead exploited them to the point all of them has got issues. And one of them didnt make it.”
