Pecco Bagnaia can’t justify his crash: ‘It was all strange; I started to be very fast without doing anything, from one moment to the other’
Pecco Bagnaia ended today’s race in Misano ingloriously when he was trying his best to make up ground on Jorge Martín and Enea Bastianini and regretted that he was “missing a lot of opportunities, a lot of the time”. He also regretted and found strange the behavior of the tires, on a day when “everything was strange”.
The Italian had an atypical day, to say the least, as he felt that everything was abnormal from early on: ‘I don’t know what was normal today. Everything has been strange since this morning. I was upright [in terms of position on the bike], and in that position in the dry you can’t normally fall off. I didn’t brake hard, I braked 18 meters before the fastest lap I’d done and even then I lost the front as if I’d hit a bump, which didn’t exist, so it was strange but everything was strange’.
Unpredictability and many losses of control marked the day of the rider, who never seemed to find the rear tire of his bike, and even his extra speed, halfway through the race, was strange and unexpected, as Bagnaia did nothing different:
– I lost the rear of the bike on the warm-up lap in the last corner, I lost the rear in the first corner and in turn 13, I lost the front in turn 14. I was pushing very hard and I was lapping in 1:31.7s, 1:31.8s and then in a moment from one lap to the next I dropped the lap time by five, six or seven tenths without doing anything, just riding… I don’t know, I don’t know.
