Stephen A. Smith Responds to Megyn Kelly’s Outrage Over Eagles-White House Controversy

Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back when addressing Megyn Kelly’s reaction to a now-debunked report about the Philadelphia Eagles allegedly declining a White House invitation after winning Super Bowl 2025.

On a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the ESPN personality criticized Kelly for her over-the-top response to the false report.

Kelly’s fiery reaction stemmed from a February 6 report by The U.S. Sun, which falsely claimed that an unnamed Eagles player and a team executive had refused to visit the White House if invited. The report came out three days before the Eagles triumphed over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 2025.

Kelly quickly expressed her anger on social media, posting an expletive-laden message aimed at the Eagles organization. “GO F YOURSELVES,” Kelly wrote in response to the false claim.

However, just days later, the White House denied the report, confirming that no invitation had been extended to the Eagles yet, and therefore, no decision had been made about a visit. Kelly acknowledged the White House’s statement but Smith still felt her initial response was unnecessary.

Smith didn’t stop there—he also reminded Kelly of the historical context between the Eagles and the White House. He pointed out the team’s previous experience in 2018, when many players chose to skip the White House visit under then-President Donald Trump.

“Really? They ain’t feeling Trump. So what?” Smith said, adding, “74 million plus people wasn’t feeling Trump. F them too? Come on, Megyn.”

Smith emphasized that if any team had a valid reason to turn down a White House invitation, it would be the Eagles. He referred to the 2018 situation, where Trump rescinded the invitation after players expressed they wouldn’t attend due to his stance on the national anthem, a divisive issue at the time.

Smith pointed out that the Eagles’ decision in 2018 was more complex than Kelly seemed to realize. “You don’t need to do that. It’s just not necessary,” Smith said to Kelly.
