Today: Chris Flexen Turns His Birthday Into a Gift for Children in Need.Yen

CHICAGO — For most athletes, a birthday is a chance to celebrate — to take a break, enjoy the spotlight, and receive gifts from teammates, fans, and loved ones. But this year, Chris Flexen, pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, chose something very different. On his 30th birthday, he gave all his gifts away — not for attention, but to bring joy to those who need it most.

In a quiet but powerful act of kindness, Flexen donated every birthday gift he received — from monetary contributions to care packages and sports gear — to local charities supporting underprivileged children across Chicago. Instead of throwing a party, he spent the day visiting youth shelters and community centers, personally handing out gifts and sitting down with kids who rarely get moments like these.

“I’ve had the privilege of living out my dream,” Flexen said. “There are kids out there dreaming of something as simple as a new pair of shoes or a warm meal. If my birthday can make their day a little brighter — then that’s all I need.”

The Cubs organization praised the gesture, and fans across social media flooded his profiles with birthday wishes — not just for another year of life, but for the life-changing impact he made on others. Some called it the most “humble and beautiful” thing they’ve seen from a player this season.

While Flexen may be known for his fastball on the mound, it’s clear that his greatest strength lies off the field — in his heart for giving.

Happy Birthday, Chris Flexen — and thank you for reminding us all what it truly means to be a Cub.
