President Donald Trump reacts cautiously after RFK Jr.’s heated Senate hearing, calling him “a good person with different ideas” but stopping short of full support.
Washington, D.C. – Following a highly contentious hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) became the target of bipartisan criticism. Senators from both parties harshly questioned his vaccine policies and his shocking decisions, including the dismissal of CDC Director Susan Monarez and major cuts to mRNA research.
Amid the backlash, President Donald Trump gave a measured response. He described RFK Jr. as “a very good person” with “somewhat different ideas,” adding that he “heard Kennedy did quite well,” though he did not personally watch the hearing.
However, Trump’s support appeared half-hearted. He refrained from fully backing Kennedy, particularly as many of the Secretary’s policies run counter to Trump’s legacy of Operation Warp Speed — the signature COVID-19 vaccine program from his previous administration.
As RFK Jr. attempts to reshape the role of the Department of Health with his vaccine-skeptical views, Trump’s lukewarm stance highlights a growing divide within the administration’s health policy direction.
