In a proud moment for the North Texas baseball community, Zeke Wood, a standout right-handed pitcher and North Lamar High School alum, has officially signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, taking a major leap forward in his professional baseball journey.

A native of Lamar County, Wood has long been known for his determination, work ethic, and powerful presence on the mound. His signing with one of Major League Baseball’s most storied franchises marks a significant milestone — not only in his career but for the hometown that has supported him every step of the way.

“It’s a dream come true,” Wood said in a brief statement. “To represent North Lamar and now wear a Cardinals jersey is something I’ve worked toward my whole life.”

The former Texas State University pitcher turned heads with his fastball, command, and competitive edge throughout his college career. Scouts have praised his poise and maturity on the mound, qualities that undoubtedly caught the attention of the Cardinals’ development staff.

His signing was announced by Empowerment Sports Group (ESG), which represents the young athlete. The Cardinals’ front office has yet to reveal which minor league affiliate Wood will be assigned to, but expectations are high as he enters the next level of competition.

Back home, the excitement is palpable. Community members, coaches, and teammates alike have taken to social media to share their congratulations and support for the hometown star.

“Zeke has always represented Lamar County with class and grit,” one former coach commented. “Now, he’s about to do the same on a national stage.”
